Maybe some of you use Twitter to micro-blog all that overflowing brain blather. Maybe you don't. Either way I have a suggestion, go create an account on our very own local Microblog. We can chat to each other or just share info about stuff that we want to share. It'll be fun.
If you are still not convinced here are some benefits:
Click the bunch of bananas and join in the conversation.
My studious partner wants to listen to a Latin podcast on her audio player. She has a bit of catch up to do, there are hundred probably thousands of mp3 files to download. Now I know there are all kinds of graphical download plugins and managers I could use but I prefer something a bit quicker and more simple.
There has been some discussion around editing your videos and I'm hopefully reporting an exciting new development for 2010. No not the Christmas hat that appeared on the VLC icon this year....
VideoLAN, the developers of the excellent VLC Media Player are working on a new free video editing package, VideoLAN Movie Creator.
I shall be watching this closely to see how it goes. Cool huh?
I just spent more than ten minutes trying to figure out how to change the default audio player on my Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope. I think the fault is my brain not Ubuntu. Now if I write this down I may actually remember such a simple procedure....
Riding around Northern Chiang Mai today I passed this:

I woke the owner up, he spoke a little english and said that we open source people should stick together and share the knowledge. He looked a bit sleepy so I let him toddle back to bed.

Whilst recovering from mixing my drinks I found an 'article' on some annoying website (via Slashdot) listing "The 10 Coolest Open Source Products Of 2008" to save you expending your time clicking through all 11 pages here is the list:
Working as I do in a Microsoft Windows-centric IT department has its challenges. None of them technical. Many years of installing and reinstalling Microsoft operating systems and the multitude of other software, patches, updates, workarounds and fixes has become second nature. So much so that I often have waking nightmares involving Office 2007, docx, Eu-fu!*ing-dora, MS-SQL, MSDE, Visual Studio, Service Pack 3, Genuine Advantage and Outlookpst files. When I say not technical, I mean it, all this stuff is just knowledge. When to click, Next, OK or Cancel.
Oh the irony of reading about this on a Microsoft site - link
This bit was particularly interesting -
Microsoft Netherlands spokesman Hans Bos noted that its Word documents were still allowed as equal alternatives to ODF for the moment, and added he expects the company will soon receive approval for its Open Office XML to qualify as "open source."
But he said the company was worried about and opposed other aspects of the Dutch policy.
Specifically, he said, the provision that government agencies should prefer open source was overly proscriptive.
Overly proscriptive?! Now hang on a minute....
I expect there are a fair few of you who have bought one of those cheap MP3 players from The Good Guys or WOW. I know I have one which cost me about 30 bucks and plays half an hour of audio which gets me to work and back on my bicycle.
