Which Way Is Up?

It is a few years now that David Chapman and I talked about trying a Linux Club in Coffs Harbour.

The original plan was to have a club so that we could encourage more and more people to the many advantages of Linux operating systems.

With David's generosity we did set up a once a month, Sunday afternoon session at his shop in Ocean Parade Coffs and on occasion we did have a good and interested attendance.

Software Freedom Day 2008

We have submitted a team for Software Freedom Day 2008. Its going to be low key this year...not too taxing. We will obtain some Ubuntu CDs plus the Ubuntu Educational add-on to send out to secondary schools throughout the region. It will also be accompanied with other resources that can be used in the class room.

If you would like to get involve please contact me at paul[at]coffswifi[dot]net

Software Freedomday 08

Just a thought for this years SFD. It would be good to get a list of all the platforms and applications people in the club use. Plus feedback on there usability. Would be helpfull in promoting SFD. i.e. Our members use this software instaead of...and it performs...against the propierty equivilent.

It would also be a good resoure for the club members - I have a few questions on various applications and I don know if anyone uses them.

SFD07 Competition

Anybody want to co-ordinate an entry for the SFD 2007 Competition? We could win an OLPC laptop!

Software Freedom Day Press Release

Below is the press release I sent out to the usual suspects this afternoon. If you think I may have missed somebody, let me know at the email address below.

Hyping it up

I've just got back from speaking to the Coffs Daybreak Rotary Club about Software Freedom Day, and yesterday did the same, plus had a little stall with flyers, CDs and what-not at the ETC Breakfast Club business networking meeting. At both events I used the Coff Ex-Services Computer Club's for demonstration purposes (thanks go to the club), and by all accounts we were well received.
